Ahh. No problem. Looking back I see that you were providing an example for contrast. Consensus is one part of the process among others in the development of a project. So I don't think this debate needs to be so either/or. But I generally agree with the points you are making.

Centralization of Truth Movement strategy/leadership (27 posts)

OK, these are all important points, but I'd like to get back to what Nick was bringing up:
Democracy. Let's have a mind experiment on that. Let's say you choose this leadership by a fair and unmanipulated election....
Now this near-ideal group announces itself. What are the minimum resources it requires to make itself heard? Assuming these are available, what happens next? How do all the other groups and would-be leaders react? How does the state react? How do the activists and skeptics generally react? How do the people at large react?
My idea of leadership is that it unifies people and gets things done. Leadership doesn't necessarily have to be democratically elected or recognized by everyone (or anyone). 911Truth.org, Truth Action, TruthMove, most of the people on these forums--we're all leaders in some form or another. The essential point is that we need the unity and focus that comes with coordination/cooperation.
If "centralization of leadership" sounds too hierarchical or exclusive to you, I would suggest thinking about it another way: people of like minds, who want to progress the cause, coming together accomplish greater things than they can alone. What I think we need is stronger alliances and working relationships. That doesn't mean that people should stop doing their local/individual activism (which has often been the most effective facet of the movement).
Good leadership results in things like the recent Truth Emergency conference and the highly successful 9/11 visibility poster campaign: http://media.digitalstyledesigns.com/
Right now, it could be argued that Ron Paul/Alex Jones/We Are Change is the most prominent leadership of the 9/11 truth movement. We (many of us on these two forums) are trying to offer a viable alternative.
911Truth.org has tried to facilitate national organization with their conference calls and the forums/community hub here: http://www.911truthgroups.org/ but from my experience this project has been a bit too ambitious and the forums haven't really caught on.
