i suppose this topic is tied to global warming

i've lived in NYC for 49 years and I've never known tornadoes to strike this area. recently there has been a noticeable uptick in activity which some speculate that it could be the result of climate change. (duh)

but - this is all an excuse to share this video.

This video was taken just blocks from where i live. as for me - i was stuck standing under the Long Island Expressway overpass (probably the safest place to be) - with no idea what was going on - when the tornado hit. at the height of the storm i took out my phone to call my wife and found a text message from her warning me that tornadoes were on the ground in Queens.

A year or two ago there was a tornado in White Plains near where I grew up. It did strike me as unusual.

There was at least one in 2007 that hit Sunset Park and Bay Ridge. I remember that Bay Ridge Ave was hit pretty hard with many roofs being damaged.

This one seemed to be bigger as so many areas were affected. Fort Green and Park Slope were both his pretty bad with lots of tree damage and trees falling on top of cars. There was about a minute where it was like being in a cloud outside and it seemed to be raining horizontally. I have read that the National Weather Service's radar indicated winds of up to 109 mph occurred through parts of the city. The hail was pretty significant as well, but it was very quick.
