Who's interests does this serve? Sure, tourism may suffer in India, but in the more long term view, what is the likely result of this?

All Mumbai gunmen from Pakistan, says India

    http://rawstory.com/news/2008/All_Mumbai_gunmen_fr...

India on Monday formally accused "elements" in Pakistan of being behind the devastating Islamic militant attacks in Mumbai and demanded that Islamabad take "strong action".

The move came after Indian officials said investigations had shown that all the attackers involved in the 60-hour-long assault, which left at least 172 dead and close to 300 wounded, were Pakistani nationals.

The attacks were also described as a "major setback" for the peace process between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

Mike Ruppert is talking about Russian/Chechen connections. His writing has been a bit frantic recently, but I think he's always got valuable perspectives...

As for the people who think Israel or the U.S. did this, please go to Alex Jones' blog and leave us alone. That's the government disinformation site.

Following a phone call and several emails among allies in which he emphasized that his hunch is no more than that, Mike has clarified the MO of the Mumbai attacks which he feels points towards Russian or Chechen origin (underscore "MO;" the motives of the two entities are opposed):

The key fact that everyone seems to have missed is that the operational response plan of the Mumbai police was compromised so that Mumbai's top three police officials walked directly into a secondary ambush at the start of the attacks. THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY PLANNED! Mumbai police security was compromised, and that smacks of state-sponsorship because in almost every case, only national intelligence services even aspire to that kind of penetration. Quite frequently it's technical... eg. PROMIS.

India demands 'strong action' from Pakistan

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/810679...

India demanded Pakistan take "strong action" against those behind the 60-hour siege that left at least 172 people dead, as new details emerged Monday about the gunmen and the survival training that enabled them to thwart Indian commandos.

The United States called on Pakistan to fully cooperate with investigations into the attack, which has strained relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Soldiers removed the last victims' bodies from the shattered Taj Mahal hotel Monday, searching each room in the labyrinthine building and defusing booby-traps and bombs left by the gunmen.

Good point, Michel Chossudovsky didn't pick up on that but his article is good and it includes this:

Also of significance is Washington's outright interference in the conduct of the Indian police investigation. The Times of India points to an "unprecedented intelligence cooperation involving investigating agencies and spy outfits of India, United States, United Kingdom and Israel."

The FBI has dispatched police, counter-terrorism officials and forensic scientists to Mumbai "to investigate attacks that now include American victims..." Experts from the London's Metropolitan Police have also been dispatched to Mumbai:

"The U.S. government's "working assumption" that the Pakistani militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed are suspects in the attacks "has held up" as Indian authorities have begun their investigation, the official said. The two Kashmiri militant groups have ties to al Qaeda." (Wall Street Journal, November 28, 2008)

The role of the US-UK-Israeli counter terrorism and police officials, is essentially to manipulate the results of the Indian police investigation.

Not sure what exactly this means, but is noteworthy...

One of the two Indian men arrested for illegally buying mobile phone cards used by the gunmen in the Mumbai attacks was a counterinsurgency police officer who may have been on an undercover mission, security officials said Saturday, demanding his release.

The arrests, announced in the eastern city of Calcutta, were the first since the bloody siege ended. But what was touted as a rare success for India's beleaguered law enforcement agencies, quickly turned sour as police in two Indian regions squared off against one another.

Senior police officers in Indian Kashmir, which has been at the heart of tensions between India and Pakistan, demanded the release of the officer, Mukhtar Ahmed, saying he was one of their own and had been involved in infiltrating Kashmiri militant groups.

Pakistan’s Spies Aided Group Tied to Mumbai Siege

Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Pakistan-based militant group suspected of conducting the Mumbai attacks, has quietly gained strength in recent years with the help of Pakistan’s main spy service, assistance that has allowed the group to train and raise money while other militants have been under siege, American intelligence and counterterrorism officials say.

American officials say there is no hard evidence to link the spy service, the Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, to the Mumbai attacks. But the ISI has shared intelligence with Lashkar and provided protection for it, the officials said, and investigators are focusing on one Lashkar leader they believe is a main liaison with the spy service and a mastermind of the attacks.
